More Baby Shopping For Britney
If Britney uses Pregnant Belly OilShe also purchased Pregnant Belly Oil from Bella Mama, presumably for her growing and itchy belly! Mommies with Style found it listed at the best price on Baby Center -- 10% off and listed for $17.96. The reviews are glowing, as Britney probably hopes to be after using this. The oils help to soothe itchiness and minimize stretch marks.
aloe vera and coconut butter woirk wonders on stretch marks and itchy bellies
Palmers Cocoa Butter lotion works well too. I used that through my PG. I don't have stretch marks - not sure if it was the lotion or just luck...
Whether or not you get stretch marks is mostly genetic, not much to do with oils or creams. Those who were genetically predisposed not to get them use oils and creams and come to believe it was the oil that prevented the stretch marks. Those who used the same cream and did get stretch marks think they should have used a different brand. Itchiness, on the other hand, has almost everything to do with dry skin and can be treated with lotions/oils to some extent.

Taking Testosterone: Your Skin
Taking many hormones can lead to acne outbreaks. There are some skin care tips here and the acne may subside over time.
I spoke with a doc today who discussed one of the not-so-great effects of taking T: acne, and not just on the face. Ugh. Well, it’s one of the realities of transitioning, and it’s an understandably unwelcome, unpleasant surprise for some of the transguys I’ve met. The doc recommended Clindamycin Phosphate Gel USP, 1%, prescription only.

Tea Tree Oil
Tea Tree OilEven severe cases of acne have been shown to benefit from anti-acne preparations that contain up to 15% tea tree oil, an effect that can be explained by the oil’s antibacterial and skin-healing properties. In one study conducted in Australia, a comparison was made between a gel containing 5% tea tree oil and a traditional 5% benzoyl peroxide acne lotion. The products proved similar in their effectiveness against pimples, although the herbal preparation worked more slowly. It was notable, however, that the product containing the tea tree oil...

Summer's Coming ...
Don't forget your sunscreenHowever, I could have used a bit of Darrell's enlightenment, because while finishing the book today, I sat outside in Seattle's gorgeous sun, and despite living 30-some years realizing that sun can indeed get you sunburned, I forgot to put any sunscreen on until it was too late. I now have sunburned knees and feet. Ouch.

Sunscreen Numbering
Keep an eye out for better skin care info. More useful sunscreenI spoke with a dermatologist today who gave me a heads-up about the numbering system on sunscreen: the days of 15, 30, 45, 60, etc., will be gone soon enough. The numbering system will change, though I’m not sure what the value of the new system, which will be 15, 30 and 30+, from what I understand, will offer in the way of a consumer benefit.

Natural Ways to Treat Stretch Marks
Some good tips on natural skin care for stretch marks.
Who knew...Pregnancy is a wonderful time in a woman’s life. One aspect of child-bearing, however, may not be so welcomed. For 75-90% of pregnant women, stretch marks, or striae gravidum, can appear in the later half of pregnancy. Stretch marks do not pose any health risk to either the mother or child, but can cause anxiety over their appearance for those who develop them. Stretch marks first appear as raised striations which vary in colour from pink, purple or brown, depending on the mother’s normal skin colour. Striations develop where fat is stored in...

Lip Tips
Trying to make your lips look luscious? The lip care you use may depend on the decade you live in:
The lips of classic sex symbols like Marilyn Monroe have always been lush, bow shaped and a deep seductive red. Modern day sex symbols like Jennifer Lopez may tone down the lush and the deep red, but they add on shimmer and shine. According to those who measure beauty, ideal lips have a certain size and shape. In profile, the lips should have a gentle S-shaped curve with a four-millimetre depression between the lips and chin. Vertical lines imaginably drawn down from the inner corners of the eyes delineate the overall size of the lips. The upper lip should be no more than 75 per cent the size of the lower one. This ensures that there is an overall pout to the lips — no matter how plump or full they are. Before you rush to the mirror with a measuring tape, remember that there have been various ideals of lips down the ages. At the turn of the 19th century, the ideal lip was a small rosebud mouth, which became the thin cynical slash of lipstick in the 1920s. By the 1950s and ’60s, full blown bow lips, red and glossy, became every woman’s trademark after they were immortalised by Monroe. Over the next couple of decades, lips went from shimmery to natural, and now are poised between being pink, glossy and pouty and natural, nude and wide.

Fake is OK
Some might think fake is terrible, but what about a fake tan? Might be smart skin care!
NNow, being the fair-skinned, fair-haired type that whiles away the winter in a northern clime, I’m a bit phobic about sun exposure. Skin cancer really is no joke and besides, no one wants those icky wrinkles. Alas, though I am a total solar-phobe, I do love the beach and frequently find myself bursting to go running on a nice, sunny day. Therefore, I sunscreen liberally. Personally, I like the Peter Thomas Roth oil-free sunblocks since my skin tends to be oily in warmer weather (Thanks for sharing, Elizabeth!). I use the Max Sheer All Day Moisture Defense Lotion ($37) for everyday wear or the Oil-free Sunblock SPF 30 ($25) for the beach or sports.

Good Fats Prevent Chronic Disease
Know your good fats! You can enjoy good food and skin care at the same time.
Read the whole thing. If you have dry skin, stiffness, concentration problems, or hormonal imbalances you may be lacking in a type of fat that is essential to health. Essential fatty acids are those fats that the body needs; yet cannot synthesize itself. Many types of fat are unhealthy fats, yet some are beneficial and necessary. In fact, cutting all fat from the diet is actually harmful to health.
Omega-6 fatty acids are found in many vegetable oils such as borage, flaxseed, walnut, soy, corn, sunflower, and are especially abundant in evening primrose oil. These omega-6 acids help to soften dry skin and relax tense muscles.

Skin Cancer In The Family
If skin cancer runs in your family, all the more reason to slather on the sunscreen skin care!
Complicated how? Well first you have the sun-filled sky…ahhhh radiant, or is it radioactive? I cringe at the need to slather us in sunscreen. Ems and hubby pinked-out once already. Everyone ought to be careful, but the kids and I need to kick it up a notch. My sister died of melanoma cancer at age 42. It hits me in the gut to think of it, and Sis wasn’t a sun goddess. Guiltily I push hats, glasses and screen…easier said than done. And you don’t want to answer whiny WHYS with, “Cuz your aunt died from the sun’s rays…now let’s go out and have some fun!”

FALSE: The only successful treatment for removing split ends is with a scissors. Some hair care products may temporarily merge split ends together, but this only lasts until your next shampoo. Always remember that damaged ends tend to grow slower than healthy, well-maintained, trimmed hair.

Wedding Day Beauty Tips
Wedding days are full of stress, but no need to get crazy with skin care. Here's what you need to know:
A very clean and natural look is recommended for today’s bride. One of the best ways to achieve this look is to know your skin type. It is important to use the correct foundation for your skin type and color. If you have oily skin, choose a water-based matte foundation that will not add unwanted oil to your skin. If you have dry skin, then a fluid foundation may benefit your skin with its added oils.

Weight-Loss Drug Shows Further Promise
Rimonabant works by blocking pleasure receptors in the brain. Diet and exercise will continue to be key to weight loss, this report says.
A major European trial of a drug that helps people lose weight, slim their waistline and reduce risk factors for heart disease has achieved the same promising results as a similar North American trial, researchers report.
The drug, rimonabant, could be on the market in both Europe and the United States by the end of the year, said Dr. Luc Van Gaal, professor of medicine at University Hospital Antwerp in Belgium, and lead author of a report on the trial in the April 16 issue of the journal The Lancet.

The Gift of Mothering
A good point here: maybe stretch marks are a badge and skin care is not as important as we think.
I want her to know that a Caesarean scar or shiny stretch marks will become badges of honour. My daughter's relationship with her husband will change, but not in the way she thinks. I wish she could understand how much more you can love a man who is careful to powder the baby or who never hesitates to play with his child. I think she should know that she will fall in love with him again, for reasons she would now find very unromantic.

Hair Care for Children
Some good do's and don't's when you have to take your kids to the hair salon.
So how do you as a parent, avoid, annoying the stylist, upsetting your child and getting yourself stressed? Well this is where your best child psychology skills come into play! Sometimes your child will have unwarranted fears and you have to help to overcome them. Creating trust by taking their concerns seriously is the first and most important step. Promising a treat can also help. Best of all is to check in your local area to see if there is one of the growing number of new specialized children's salons available. Salon chains like Cartoon Cuts are designed to make the hair cut experience more positive and entertaining for small children: toys, video games, specially shaped chairs and specially-trained stylists, all help to ensue the experience is more like going to a theme park rather than a visit to the doctor.

L'Oreal Cashmere Perfect Soft Powdercreme Makeup
This blogger likes the L'Oreal Cashmere skin care line.
Dermatologist-tested. Non-comedogenic. Not recommended for very dry skin."
The texture of this product is exactly how they describe it. It's so soft and light - very mousse-like. It feels really luxurious on your skin, and spreads smoothly. The finish is light enough to look real, yet provides a nice, even texture. They say that you should not use this product if you have very dry skin, and I can see how that would be true. This product works best on well-exfoliated, hydrated skin. If you have persistent dry skin on your face, you should follow their advice and steer clear of this one.

Stretch Mark Dreams
For many woman, stretch marks are a nightmare and a skin care priority.
And a few nights before that I had a dream that I woke up COVERED in stretch marks. Have I ever told you guys how deathly afraid of stretch marks I am? I check my body at least 25 times a day and have purchased every single cream, lotion, gel, and ointment out there that claims to prevent them even if it's OBVIOUSLY bullshit. And I have managed to avoid them thus far, thank all that is holy. But in my dream I woke up with them on every square inch of my body - even my hands, feet, and face. It was the worst nightmare ever.
Which dream was worse - Simon or the stretch marks?

Good summary of skin care treatment for adults.
Use non-comedogenic products. Non-comedogenic basically means - not likely to block the pores of the skin, or cause blackheads or acne. There are many non-comedogenic products available today, including, makeup, foundation, moisturizers, sunscreen, lip stick, etc. If it’s something that you apply to your skin you should be able to find a non-comedogenic version. In fact, you can also find non-comedogenic and medicated makeup with acne fighting ingredients like, benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, and sulfur. These products shouldn’t clog your pores and should help treat acne.

Complicated Relationship: Sun Exposure and Cancer
The "sun bad, shade good" way of life doesn't seem to be completely true. Skin care may include some exposure to sun after all.
It's not what you think. This editorial in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute highlights mounting evidence that sun exposure may reduce the risk of certain kinds of cancer, possibly via an effect on vitamin A metabolism. In addition, there's data suggesting that when melanoma develops on a sun-exposed area (rather than an area where the sun don't usually shine, like between your toes), it's less likely to kill you. Why? Because the sunlight itself probably...

Easier Knitting
Open skin care jar, keep knitting:
If knitting is the new yoga, this is Zen in a jar. Knitters Little Helper is an all-natural, quick-absorbing hand balm that soothes dry skin without leaving a greasy residue. It’s also got a fresh, fabulous aromatherapy fragrance to lift the spirit and stimulate the senses. Packaged in a retro-chic 50gm (2-ounce) tin, this cr»me-de-la-cr»me of hand creams is finding its way into the bags of those wise in the ways of the knitting needle—and their friends. Tested on knitters, not on animals. Made in the USA. Manufactured by Blue Sky Alpacas.

Sunscreen Breakdown
Important sunscreen tip!
Don't rely on sunscreen alone to protect you from the sun's UV rays. According to these researchers, some products are subject to degradation by the sun. In particular, products with 5-octyl methoxycinnamate seemed to fall apart quickly when exposed to sunslight. This compounds another problem: most people use only about one third as much sunscreen as they really need.

Skin care and good diet can help make us look better, but sometimes plastic surgery really helps.
Liposuction is a body contouring operation that requires not only an artist’s eye, but also the insight to determine which patients are likely to benefit from the procedure (and which specific areas of a patient’s body are appropriate for liposuction). When artfully and appropriately applied, liposuction can produce dramatic contour improvements. As with all plastic surgery, the goal should be to produce a natural contour.
