Gold Fish Memory

skin care supplements memory If you've got a short memory, maybe this supplement will help.

If you’re an herbal junkie, that loves to go crazy with the cheese wiz, then you’ll flip over this crap. I’ve never used it, but it claims satisfaction, just like those other herbal supplements…

Stuff. It's Not What Is For Dinner.

skin care diet and exercise vegetables Congrats to this blogger for sticking to a diet and exercise plan!

I can-t recall if I’ve mentioned this here before or not, but I’ve been on a pretty scrict diet and exercise program since my high-blood pressure scare in late March, and it’s working pretty well. As of today I’ve lost 37 pounds(!) since then, and I’ve reached the half-way mark of my goal - getting back down to my weight when I started college. Yes, I was a fatass. Still am. I was never actually ’skinny’, but I was never fat until I let myself go the past ten years. So it’s still a ways to go, but I’m pretty sure I’ll reach my goal just in time for the holidays.

After Gastric Bypass Surgery

skin care gastric bypass surgery before and after Lots of side-effects of gastric bypass surgery including the need to eat more supplements.

So I have to take supplements for the rest of my life. This is one of the small trade offs in this journey. I have been taking my Kid Chewables twice daily and I had to take a calcium supplement too. My doctor suggested started with TUMS ( four per day). So the other day I took one in the afternoon. After I had all my other pills for the day and lunch. I had waited about one hour after lunch (a cup of warm broth).

Eczema

skin care dry skin eczema foot At it's best, eczema causes dry skin. At it's worst, eczema can be a debilitating disease.

Since birth I have suffered from Chronic Eczema. Not to be confused with Eczema that looks like moderately to bad dry skin, but Chronic Eczema. It’s a dermititis that I wish I never had to deal with, but I do anyways. I have been searching for a cure my entire life in books, in clinical journals, and on the web. I must confess, there is no cure for eczema, but there are options to keep it at bay and live with it easily.

Coconuts

skin care coconut tree I love the coconut lime verbena concept.

Anyway, the rest of the stuff is something I got the habit of from my mother, who is in her 60’s but looks like 10 years younger. If you spend every after shower time of your life putting layers of lotions and oils on your body, you will be hot when you get older. I buy into this and basically bathe in water…and then bathe in ultra super moisture healing lotion, Avon oil (no bug bites for me, thanks!), and whatever body cream I have lying around from Bath & Body. Right now it’s coconut lime verbena and I tend to use it just on my feet, elbows, knees, and various scars. It works wonders on stretch marks (grrr) and scars. I paired it with use of 100% cocoa butter and it’s made this huge scar I have on my neck from a cyst I got removed when I was like, 1 day old fade a lot. Cat scratch scars are a thing of the past. Apparently, I hate eating coconut, but slathering this body cream on and smelling like it all day doesn’t bother me.

Beauty Is In The Eye Of The Beholder

skin care stretch marks Good question!

Women are awarded the opportunity of bearing children and continuing the survival of our species. Some other female species are beautified with glorious plumes, or stronger physical abilities, or colourful coverings as a way to exhibit their ability of being able to bear offspring. Why is it human females are rewarded with wrinkles and discolorations, fat deposits, stretch marks, flabby skin and the inevitable awareness that your chances of attracting of other attractive people has been diminished?

Attack of the Ticks!

skin care tick removal Good idea to check yourself (or have someone check you) for ticks when you walk in the wild.

Naturally, for the rest of the day, each time I felt an itch, I was certain that it was a tick. And, as the prairies are giving me quite the dry skin, there are a few itches.

Pregnancy Week 9

skin care chloasma Chloasma can occur during pregnancy. Here are some skin care tips if it happens to you:

Later in pregnancy, some women develop a “mask” of dark pigment around their eyes, on their noses, and cheeks. This is called the chloasma and will slowly fade once you are a mom. If you develop this “mask of pregnancy":

Avoid the sun or use lots of sunscreen, as sun can intensify the discoloration.
Avoid using skin bleach (it’s unhealthy, and it probably won’t work, anyway!)
If it really bugs you, use a cover-up base.

Hadrian's Wall: Sunburns Since 122 AD

skin care hiking along hadrian's wall Things you'll need when you visit Hadrian's Wall:

If you walk the wall, bring sunscreen, a hat, a walking stick, and a fun companion. If you drive, make sure your car has a tape player so you can hear the audio cassette Pauline provides. (It’s nice to hear the background noises of sheep and birds, too.) And if you plan on crossing the River Tippalt, take the bridge, or wear your wellies.

Shaving And Chlorine

skin care swimming underwater A summertime skin care predicament:

One reason I (we) didn't shave often is because shaving required the use of lotion. The swimming on-season is mainly in the winter and during the winter, the humidity is roughly -12% all the time, which effectively means that even the slightest dry skin results in a leper-like appearance, with skin falling off every which way. The problem is that the use of 99.9% of the lotions commercially available was strictly prohibited because they significantly enhanced the eau de chlorine that we all wore daily--to the point that you could smell me coming...

No More Organic Soaps And Lotions

skin care organic soap The skin care world goes on without organic products as the "USDA Organic" label is restricted to food products.

"The feeling was, if your product was composed of agricultural ingredients, and you thought you could get certified, you were welcome to try," said Barbara Robinson, head of the department's National Organic Program.

Three years later, the department decided it had gone too far.

Daily Hygiene Regime

skin care shaving With so much skin care, how does this blogger ever get out the door!

When I was in L.A., I told a bemused Ezra and Kate about my personal hygiene regimen. I have three different kinds of lotion; a cleanser and an exfoliant; a shampoo, a moisturizer, and a pomade; a four-part shaving system with two balms and a handy bottle of Softsoap coupled with a vanilla bar to assure that my skin is both clean and exfoliated.

They Never Tell You The Downside

skin care stretch marks working out Stretch marks from muscle gain? It can happen:

They never tell you the downside of working out hard at the gym and trying to gain muscle mass or lose weight. Well, the pain part they’ll tell you but not the occasional red scars you get like stretch marks every once in a while. I got two matching ones on my traps now. “No pain, no gain” I can handle but scarring just plain ol’ sucks.

You Don't Look a Day Over 26...

skin care young skin Maybe all those skin care products are paying off!

To that end (and because I really am just a spa whore), I buy and use an obscene amount of ridiculously expensive skin care products each day. I don’t think a day has gone by where I haven’t worn sunscreen on my face since the mid-90s. Don’t get me wrong – I love that sunkissed look, and tend to sport as much color as I can all year – but my moisturizer has sunscreen, and I never miss a morning. (And with the exception of those, ahem, very few evenings where I somehow find myself not sleeping at home, I never miss a night...

No Facelift For Sir Michael Caine

skin care michael caine A happy ending to a viscious story:

A British newspaper has issued an apology to actor Sir Michael Caine after wrongly reporting the star has had cosmetic surgery. The Daily Mail tabloid printed the lies in several articles last year and have since been blasted for their mistake. And to further make up for the blunder, they are making a donation to the Cider House Rules actor’s favorite charity - National Society For The Prevention Of Cruelty To Children (NSPCC). Today’s edition reads, “We suggested that Sir Michael Caine had had a facelift. In fact, this is untrue....

It's just good genes!

Acne Antibiotic for Retinopathy?

skin care acne retinopathy No idea how researchers made the connection between a skin care antibiotic for acne and retinopathy, but they did.

A study by the Penn State College of Medicine suggests that minocycline - an acne antibiotic - may slow or prevent Retinopathy by reducing the inflammatory component of cytokines and microglia and thus the death of retinal cells.
