TV Rant
Let’s see..lots and lots and lots of make-up and lighting. Yeah, that’s how you describe the people in videos. Just like with models in photo shoots, the people in charge of videos have to make sure that everyone IN the video looks flawless. That means plenty of body/facial make-up…no stretchmarks, cellulite, large pores, acne, blemishes. The hair has be on point, (although there are plenty of jacked up do’s in some videos) which could mean lots of long weaves; straight, wavy, or curly.

Vampire Sunscreen
Love this new skin care term: "Vampire Sunscreen."
- Sunday I became lobster woman. I must have killed too many braincells watching “Devil’s Rejects” because I decided it was a good idea to just use SPF15 while spending 2 hours with the family at the pool. I normally wear SPF666 (you know, vampire sunscreen). Now I am suffering.

New Start
Always love to read about another weight loss success.
Even though the whole gym thing has been going good, I want it to start working for me so that I can build muscle tone for once! I am not relying on that to keep my weight where it is because ironically enough, I lost the 30 pounds in 2 years without exercising! Go figure…and more ironically enough, I lost it without dieting-yup…for me, all I had to do was eat smaller portions, don’t eat late, and be sure to have a stable amount of veggies and nuts in my diet with no less than 5 glasses of water a day. That worked out better than trying to stop eating bad foods and taking supplements (herbal) to curb my appetite. I have been maintaining my 125-130 weight range for about a year now and that has been a great place to be. The last I checked myself out, I was 128 pounds-so still in the frame, but a few days ago I saw that I was 130 pounds.

Nail Care Blogs
We love the nail careYou guys got it. I have merely been adding crappy little snippets that could not respectably pass as posts anywhere in the whole competitive blogging world (assuming there is such a thing notwithstanding that obvious fact that most bloggers are probably self-centric screen gazers who don't give a damn either way... and you know I am not talking about teenage girls that have photologs or write syndicated columns for teen mags about nail care or the throes of adolescent relationships). Well, getting back to the point, I was doing that merely to check if my blog was still alive since I was afraid that Blogger would wake up to the fact that I have merely been hogging precious memory on their servers without any activity and suddenly wipe out my account off the face of the web.

I Am An Old Lady
Whether we like it or not, we get old. But there's always time for a little skin care!
I know I am just overacted but I couldn’t help wonder why plastic surgery & cosmetic are so popular that every single woman is willing to invest a bunch of money to purchase “YOUTH” back. Maybe it is because we are all afrid we can’t catch men’s eyes anymore, or perhaps we can’t bear losing our self-confidence. I assume that I don’t want to get older for I am not taking enough advantage from my beauty. Once I lose my battle against with nature, can I really just let it go without any regret?

I Hate My Government Part I: Contacts
A new federal law requires you to provide a prescription for new contact lensesThe end result is that I don’t know if I’ll ever get new contacts without jumping through a series of ridiculous hoops to get there. All due to a government that has replaced a love of liberty with a subtle - but very real - tyranny.

Acne Treatment And Dry Skin
The skin care treatment took care of the acne, but left dry skin.
The antibiotic from my dermatologist appears to be working. I hardly have any new pimples, and the ones that I do have are little and near the hairline on my forehead, which is where I usually get them. But then last weekend, I started to notice that I was getting some dry skin around my eyes. Which presented a problem, since I don’t own any type of moisturizer that one would use on one’s face. Don’t yell at me for this, I know it’s a major girl no-no, but come on. Why does an already oily-faced person need more moisture?

Mixed Feelings
This post brings up the issue of HIV and other disease transmission through dry skin. If HIV transmission did occur through dry skin from small amounts of exposure, you would see many, many more cases of HIV.
What the issue is about, is the fact that all public service people, paramedics, police, firemen, and medical personnel are instructed to use covered protection when dealing with patients who are bleeding. What the CDC does say, is that blood products can get into a persons body through cuts, cracks from dry skin, open sores.

Me And My Muumuu
Sometimes a muumuuIt feels so nice to have something so comfortable, so covering, and so beautiful to wear when my body is taking on a mind of its own. I no longer feel that my belly is “cute” or even, really, me. The “linea negra” is pretty disturbing and my belly button… well, let’s not go there. I am thankful that I have seen no stretch marks yet, though I haven’t really looked for them since I can only see the top half of my globular abdomen. And the little hairs… why does pregnancy make me so hairy? David commented that my belly fuzz should be sticking straight out like when he buzz-cuts his hair with the number 1 guard on the trimmer. Thanks, Dave, for the laugh!

Supplement Rant
An off-beat rant on vitamins and supplements.
We (the rats and I) hope that “David Three Rats” (the blog) will lend some occupancy to a sadly undertenanted niche of discourse; I speak (much as the rats squeal) of a critical, science-based examination of the very many products which crowd the groaning shelves of health food and supplement stores; capsules and caplets, pills and rubs, vitamins, minerals and smelly old dried herbs, tinctures, sugar pills and shit like that, gamepieces in a business which has enjoyed growth of fungal geometry in the last decade and which ain’t gonna quit any time soon.

Sunburn Of A Witless Mind
I knew too much sun could cause skin care problems, but maybe it causes mental problems, too.
Don't forget the sunscreenA week later, and the skin on my arms is still coming off in clumps, and I’m red in the face. In my concern to get decent photographs, I neglected to carry a hat or sunscreen, didn’t I?

Premed Choices
We vote for dermatology!
The most important thing for me right now is to graduate with a B.S. in Microbiology with the premed emphasis in two years. I also have something to prove to a few family members who don't think much of me, who have even gone as far to say that I won't make it. I'm striving to prove them wrong. Ultimately, I want to become a doctor specializing obstetrics, dermatology, anethesia, or internal medicine.

Trip To The Dentist
Avoiding a trip to the dentist doesn't seem to reduce the anxiety.
I am going to the dentist this afternoon, breaking a streak impressively long enough that I will not identify it here. If I get bad news about the results of my personal tooth care during the streak, I will need to get creative to find someone to blame, but it will happen.

Hiking With Your Blog
If you don't remember to put sunscreenThis blog spent the weekend climbing in the lovely desert of Arizona. In case you were wondering, blogs make horrible climbing partners and I'm leaving this particular blog home next time. It was approximately 110F all weekend and I managed to get sunburned the first day. Apparently, this sunscreen must be re-applied every 2-3 hours to be effective, especially when one has Scandinavian skin that will get sunburned by standing too close to the microwave. I was both unaware of this stipulation and unwilling to stop the climbing while I slathered on more sunscreen. As a result, 62% of my body resembles a fully cooked lobster. The 38% of me that was covered by clothing, sunglasses and tape is still ghostly white. I am a human candy cane.

How Fair?
LOL:
Yes, I was wearing sunscreen, but on skin as fair as mine, it doesn’t make that much of a difference. How fair? Let’s just say that when I go to Goth events, I don’t need to use white makeup to look like one of the undead.

Pagans
If you don't want to use sunscreen, consider becoming a pagan.
The start of summer means shorts, swimsuits, Hawaiian shirts and sunscreen. And, for some, hooded black robes and pentagrams.

Stretch Marks Everywhere
Stretch marks seem to be like hair: they show up where you least expect them.
Back to the 24 pounds gained. Its very obvious that I am pregnant now. But I continue to be amazed at how the body changes! I have more stretch marks than I have every thought possible and the amount and places that fat gets distributed is intriguing. Why do I need another set of knees on top of my actual knees? What is the purpose of chunky elbows exactly? My latest thought is this… Stretch marks are appearing everywhere, even places that aren’t getting much bigger. However, the place where my skin is stretched beyond comprehension (my ankles and feet) and stay in that state of swollen, they have no stretch marks. Why is that? To me, it makes no sense.

Microdermabrasion Versus Chemical Peels
Some good skin care information comparing microdermabrasion and chemical peels.
AHA peels, including glycolic, salicylic, lactic and fruit acids, are of the mildest formulas. Most AHA peels can be applied weekly, and help to treat fine lines, dryness, acne, and uneven pigmentation. Treatments, on average, take less than an hour. Recovery time is fairly short, but several treatments are usually required.
