Hair Issues For Adoptive Parents
Lots to learn as an adoptive parent, including hair care.
I'm ashamed to say that I even know who Zahara is in this tabloid-celebrity obsessed world. To be put on the world stage at such a young age is problematic enough let alone dealing with the politics of hair, so little Miss Pitt has her hands full. So when I came across a recent article concerning hair issues with children of color and their White adoptive and/or biological parents, the Pitts' famous daughter quickly comes to mind.

Awesome Hair
The storyHow did this homeless man go about getting such nice hair? It’s not like he could afford it. If all the commercials and the seven aisles at Walgreen’s have been telling the truth, hair care is expensive. And I’m no economist, but I seem to remember something I once learned or heard or imagined while I was high about how you kind of need money to survive. And just so we’re all on the same page, the homeless don’t have a lot of money.

Frizzy Hair Be Gone!
On the care of frizzy hair.
Perhaps having frizzy hair is the most common complaint I’ve heard from girls. I mean hello, the moment hair relaxing, rebonding, or straightening procedures were born, gosh, the salons have been simply been swarmed with clients! ( whoopee for the salons! )

It's OK, It's Michigan
If you're traveling to Michigan, make sure to pick up some of the cheap hair care productsWe went to lunch and talked to the people at the tables surrounding us and chatted with the waitstaff and probably laughed a little too loud, but it’s Michigan and you do things like that here. A trip to Meijers was necessary before we could go home, but we couldn’t just run in and pick up the few things we needed. Instead we had to wander the aisles for a bit, double back to pick up the things we missed, meander around rather aimlessly for a time in order to just see if something interesting was there and on sale. I stocked up on anti-frizz humidity resistant hair care products because things are ridiculously cheaper in Michigan.

Branded
From a post on the church and modern society.
Heck, we can even use modern culture to prove this point! Coke has been the leading soft drink for years, despite hundreds of new products on the market each year. Consumers flock to brands that are time-tested and recognizable. We feel comfortable in reliability and familiarity. Look in your own closet and in your own home. Do you always wear Levi’s? Do you always drink Pepsi? Do you always end up on the same channels on TV? Do you always buy the same groceries and hair care products?

Akihabara Maids Want Your Blood
Check out this post on how providing hair care and manicures for blood donors boosts donations.
Several years ago, the Shinjuku station (east exit) blood donation site began offering manicures and hair care advice provided by specialists from the Japan Hair Science Association. Now, those services are firmly established. After the Yurakucho blood donation site began offering tarot card and palm readings last year, many repeat donors began scheduling their visits to coincide with days that fortune-telling services were offered.

Black Hair Care Products
From a long post on finding the right hair care products, this bit on Motions hair careI embarked on a search for something cheaper. Bought tube after tube of nasty stuff that worked like crud but remained on the edge of the tub for months anyway --I had spent good money on it, after all. One item I’d had especially high hopes for was the “Motions” line of hair care products-- I had to drive to a store 40 minutes away to pick it up, but since it is designed specifically for Black hair, I figured it would work for sure. Nope. The comb didn’t glide near as nicely as with my hideously expensive but much-loved Physique. Onto the tub edge with the rest of the rejects went the “Motions”.

The Hairly Departed
The question is, what to do about it? Fight off impending - and inevitable - follicle doom with an array of pricey hair care products? (Which would, I might add, seriously impinge upon my ability to accumulate Xbox games. Hey, I might play something other than Halo 2 someday. Really.) Or should I accept my fate, and go for the Ken Wilber look?

They Like Me Wet And Naked
This is a new application for hair care products that I hadn't heard before.
The RedkenI cannot tell anyone how hard it is to not scream and be completely girly, as I am in the case of most insects, when you’re wet, sometimes soapy, and a bug is trying to take a gander at your glistening girl flesh (the perverts!). I’ve got more bug guts on the bottom of my shampoo bottle than I care to admit. I really should contact the makers of the Redken hair care products and tell them that their items double as flyswatters.

Trichotillomania, Oh My!
LOL
I think I have contracted Trichotillomania, or TTM for short. For the few of you not in the know, TTM is a compulsion to pull ones hair. Even though I have not been examined by a professional, a home test kit purchased over the internet confirmed that I had the symptoms. I hoped I was fine after getting around some of the preliminary questions like, “Are you using an inordinate amount of hair care products?” I had been, but believed that perhaps I was the victim of a series of break-ins by a thief with a penchant for mousse and pomade. However,...

Hair Care Myths

FALSE: The only successful treatment for removing split ends is with a scissors. Some hair care products may temporarily merge split ends together, but this only lasts until your next shampoo. Always remember that damaged ends tend to grow slower than healthy, well-maintained, trimmed hair.

Hair Care for Children
Some good do's and don't's when you have to take your kids to the hair salon.
So how do you as a parent, avoid, annoying the stylist, upsetting your child and getting yourself stressed? Well this is where your best child psychology skills come into play! Sometimes your child will have unwarranted fears and you have to help to overcome them. Creating trust by taking their concerns seriously is the first and most important step. Promising a treat can also help. Best of all is to check in your local area to see if there is one of the growing number of new specialized children's salons available. Salon chains like Cartoon Cuts are designed to make the hair cut experience more positive and entertaining for small children: toys, video games, specially shaped chairs and specially-trained stylists, all help to ensue the experience is more like going to a theme park rather than a visit to the doctor.

Dandruff Demystified
The skin on your scalp has special characteristics and some people need skin care help for that condition call dandruff.
Scalp cells replenish themselves in a pattern similar to that of hair, but more rapidly: The skin of the head renews itself about once a month. Dead scalp cells are constantly being pushed from the deepest layer of the epidermis to the skin’s surface, where they gradually die. Usually the scalp sheds them in a nearly invisible way. But for reasons that are still unclear, cell turnover sometimes becomes unusually rapid, and dead cells are shed as the visible flakes called dandruff. Although most people assume dandruff comes from a dry scalp, the opposite is true: People with oily scalps tend to suffer most from dandruff.

Unwanted Hair
Nose hair, ear hair, ewe!
I realise I may seem a little obsessive on the theme of hair in strange places but it's only because I have to pluck my nose and shave my ears... and I bet George Clooney does too! Actually, he probably has someone to do it for him. Anyway, the truth is out... Q. Why do the elderly often suffer from excess nose and ear hair? A. "Nose and ear hair is a typically male-hormone-dependent type of hair," said Dr. Vera Price, a professor in the department of dermatology at the University of California at San Francisco, "and certainly there is less opposition by female hormones like estrogen as we age, which is probably why the hair is longer." Each sex has both male and female hormones, Dr. Price explained, but the balance changes with age. The increase in nose and ear hair may be noticed more by women than by men, she suggested, because "many men have had noticeable nasal and ear hair all their adult lives," owing to a plentiful supply of androgens. In a related change in many aging women as estrogen levels drop, "nature gives us two hairs on the chin as we lose one on the top," Dr. Price said. The increase in ear and nose hair is a "totally benign and very common change," she said, so it is not well studied. She suggested cutting the unwanted hair with manicure scissors, preferably with rounded ends, or using a battery-operated hair trimmer made for the purpose.
