Saving Your Eyesight
Some tips on saving your eyesight and avoiding Lasik.
Now I certainly don't pretend to be a doctor, (though Dr. Andrew G.R. has a nice ring to it), but there are several common sense type things you can do to save yourself from pushing your eyes to the limit and eventually needing eyeglasses, lasik surgery - or worse!

Cronic Dry Eye
Lasik is not the cause of this dry eye problem.
I would like to note that this is not because of my Lasik surgery. I would have had this issue without it. I sleep with my eyes slightly open. Fun, huh?

Plans Gone Awry
A look at the health savings plan makes Lasik a good choice.
After years of hemming and hawing, I finally decided to have LASIK surgery on my left eye. Part of the reason was that I’m now to the age where reading is a problem, and I either need regular contacts with reading glasses, monovision contacts (one eye for reading and one for distance), or glasses with progressive lenses.

Surgery On Thursday
Touch here for more info:
Thursday though, hopefully will be the end of my relationship with eyeglasses. I am going in for Lasik surgery. Technically it is not Lasik that I am getting. Due to some anomalies with my eyes I will need to have PRK (Photorefractive Keratectomy) instead.

Vision Correction Surgery
Let me just say I had a really high prescription, I was almost afraid I wouldn’t be able to get lasik surgery. So if anyone is one the fence about getting it done, I highly recommend it.

Stay Out of Fights When Wearing These
Why would someone get pierced glasses instead of Lasick surgery?
Now I know you are probably wondering why a person just wouldn’t wear normal glasses or contacts, or even get Lasik surgery. On the creator’s FAQs, he addresses that:

Long Time, No See
Most of the time Lasik is great, but sometimes not.
Pardon the pun. I had lasik surgery - - and had complications. That explains quite a bit about my absence from the blogosphere.

What's Wrong With Glasses?
What, me look freakish?
All this sounds like fun. So I have decided to pick my own random group of people to become obsessed with. I have decided that I don't like people who have had Lasik surgery. What is so wrong with wearing glasses? I have been wearing glasses since I was 5. Does that make me freakish?

I just had my final checkup, just about one year after my LASIK surgery, and I'm 20/15 combined and 20/20 in each eye.

Performance Enhancing Contact Lenses
Now baseball players can get performance enhancing contact lenses that serve as kind of super sun glasses. Is that as bad as steroids? Is it more important than Lasik?
Click through for link to article. This is probably better than getting a Lasik surgery specific to your sport!

Lasik Research: Blade or Laser To Creat Flap
An important finding for docs and patients:
Very interesting.New scientific data being presented at this year’s ASCRS meeting reveals the key to a better-than-20/20 outcome in LASIK surgery may depend on whether your doctor uses a blade or a laser to create the corneal flap in the first step of the procedure.

Lasik Goggles
Lasik surgery doesn't always work as planned and you should be aware of the possible problems. One problem is having to have a second procedure and wear these lovely goggles:
Back in December, I had Lasik surgery....Didn't make a huge deal out of it, but mentioned it in this post....Well, my right eye didn't "take" completely....Was still a bit blurry, so after a few months they did some 'tweaks' on my right eye. Yesterday afternoon I went in to get it worked on. For the first night after you get it done, you're supposed to wear these goggles so nothing gets in your eyes....At the risk of some pretty cruel comments, I'm sharing a pic of me from yesterday...

Lasik Surgery Has Risks
Before you have Lasik surgery, make sure to understand the risks.
For every 500 people who go for Lasik surgery to correct their short-sightedness, doctors say at least one could end up in a situation where things go terribly awry.

Another Happy Lasik Patient
A story from another happy Lasik customer.
Sean came back from having Lasik eye surgery this afternoon. He was stoked about the operation and how cool it was. Apparently he was clapping about 5 minutes after it was done and anyone that knows him knows that means he's excited.
He came home, and with some help getting up the stairs, gave us the rundown of what happened. He needs to rest up as much as possible the next several hours and has 3 different drops that have to go into his eyes over the course of 4-5 days.
As he crawled upstairs, looking like a cross between the Terminator and Ray Charles, we knew he'd be back - and now better than ever.

Intralase - Laser Lasik
Here's a first hand account from a Intralase patient. Fast and easy.
It's done and I can see again! The procedure was very interesting. There was no pain associated with it. The worst sensation was a bit of pressure on my eyeball when the intralase cone was pushed on to it to hold the eye still. The whole thing took about 10 minutes, and even then I could read the clock across the room. I'm going back for my next day checkup in about 2 hours and will post a progress report after that. But my starting point was 20/1000, so anything close to 20/20 is going to have me doing happy dances for quite a while!
